Important Information for Mayo Residents under Evacuation

The following is information that has been collected by the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyak Dun, Na-Cho Nyäk Dun Development Corporation, and the Village of Mayo to support community members navigate the current community evacuation due to wildfires.


Yukon Emergency Support Services has identified Whitehorse as the evacuation muster point for Mayo residents. Information for residents who have chosen to evacuate to locations other than Whitehorse is at the bottom of this document. This is not a definitive list of resources. We will be updating as we have more information.

Register

Check in and register with Yukon Emergency Support Services (YESS) at the Canada Games Centre in Whitehorse (200 Hamilton Blvd). Or call 867-332-4597 for more information, or to register. YOU MUST REGISTER WITH YUKON EMERGENCY SUPPORT SERVICES IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR HOTELS, FOOD VOUCHERS AND/OR REIMBURSEMENTS. Accommodations YESS is arranging hotel and other various accommodations for all residents under evacuation. Please indicate how many people are in your family or party and if there are any pets with you. If there are any issues in securing accommodations, please reach out to the FNNND / NNDDC response team at: 867-334-5604 Food & Toiletries The Yukon Food Bank (306 Alexander St) will have food hampers available Tuesday August 8th & Thursday August 10th from 10:00am-12:45 and 3pm to 4:45 as well as Wednesday’s 10am to 12:45. These hampers contain food that does not require a kitchen for preparation. For any food-related needs, please call the Yukon Food Bank at 867-393-2265. Kwanlin Dün First Nation will be offering meals to Mayo evacuees in Whitehorse at the Nàkwät’à Kų̀ Potlatch House (35 McIntyre Drive). They will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Counsellors will be available on site. Both of these locations will also have toiletry supplies. If there is essentials you need, please let staff know and we’ll work on acquiring them. Internet In order to stay connected with friends and family or any other needs that require internet support, the Whitehorse Public Library (1171 Front St.) offers free, unlimited wifi with your own devices and 1 hr daily of library computer access. WPL hours are Monday to Thursday 10am-8pm, and Friday to Sunday 10am-6pm. Wifi may be accessed from outside on your own device 24/7. The Na-Cho Nyäk Dun Development Corporation office (2237 2nd Ave, Unit 310) is open Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm, and has WiFi available to use on your own device. Additional Information

As the emergency situation unfolds, getting to a secure and safe place with your family is the top priority. If you spend any money on food, gas or accommodations in response to this emergency evacuation, please save your receipt and take a photo of it as back-up. Any reimbursements will be processed through the Yukon Government, and while not guaranteed, the more proof of purchase the better. If a cardlock gas pump has run out of paper, take a photo of the fuel amount and cost on the pump. The Canada Games Centre is offering free access to their facilities for all Mayo residents under evacuation. Just head to the front desk and ask for a wristband.


Yukonstruct (2180, 2nd Ave) is offering free workspaces and internet for Mayo evacuees.


As more businesses and organizations offer sponsorship for recreation and activities, we will be sharing on Na-Cho Nyäk Dun Development Corporation’s Facebook page, and the Mayo Events Facebook Group. More information for residents choosing to evacuate to locations other than Whitehorse

Please register with Yukon Emergency Support Services at 867-332-4597, and let them know where you are staying. For any food, gas, or accommodation purchases made in response to this emergency evacuation, please save your receipt and take a photo of it as back-up.
