CONTEXT AND BACKGROUND
NNDDC is a forward-thinking organization that prides itself on the work ethic and creativity that our team brings to the table. We are currently seeking to expand our team to include a Finance Assistant to help NNDDC and our sister companies further grow into their full potential and contribute towards implementing self-determination for the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun. A highly competent bookkeeping and data entry professional is key to this work. As a smaller organization, NNDDC seeks to employ individuals who are self-starters and are flexible enough to operate across multiple different industry lines, different entities, and with the ability to strategically work on files that may be outside of their financial tasks. We encourage learning and growth of all our employees. NNDDC is an entity with multiple subsidiaries and as such, the Financial Administrator will also work on financial matters for NNDDC’s subsidiaries, where required and delegated by the CFO and Controller of NNDDC, or their designate. While subject to change, the Finance Assistant will be working on the following entities’ files:
NNDDC
Yukon Seed & Restoration Inc.
Central Yukon Equipment Leasing LP
Yukon First Nations Air Leasing LP
Tutchone Air Leasing Ltd
Dalela Na Dal Helicopters
WORK STRUCTURE
Reports to: CFO of NNDDC
Direct Reports: None
Wage: $33 per hour, with possibility of increase after probationary period is complete
Term and Working Conditions: Hybrid position with both remote and in-person working locations required. Hourly employment at 30-35 hours per week. Competitive extended health benefits policy and matching TFSA/RRSP program.
Work Location: 310-2237 2nd Avenue, Whitehorse (Whitehorse, YT). May be requested to travel to Mayo, YT periodically.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Financial Components
Perform bookkeeping duties using Quickbooks Online for NNDDC and its subsidiaries and other programs as necessary, including Microsoft Office, Google Drive programs, Adobe Acrobat, online banking platforms, Plooto, Opera Cloud, and a project management software.
Regularly invoice, receive, process, and collect payment for services provided to customers, including accounts follow-up – time is of the essence for these duties
Receive, process, and program payments through EFT, cheques, wire transfer, etc to vendors
Perform weekly and monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
Assist in performing account reconciliations
Other reasonable financial duties as required
Administrative Components
Assist in managing financial components of third party agreements and liaison with partners and vendors as needed
Frequent email and telephone liaising with third parties
Maintain digital and paper filing systems of bookkeeping records, as per NNDDC’s required filing systems and naming conventions
Utilize NNDDC’s project management software, Click Up, Google platform to ensure work tasks are being completed, updates are being made to files, and NNDDC team is being updated
Other reasonable administrative duties as required
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Qualifications
Minimum of two (2) years’ work experience in a similar role or post-secondary accounting-related coursework
Previous experience at a First Nation Development Corporation or business, First Nation Government, or a social enterprise considered an asset
Skills and Experience
Able to work independently and take initiative
Strong attention to detail and highly organized
Ability to quickly learn new financial software and platforms, with existing proficiency in NNDDC’s current platforms:
-Proficiency in Quickbooks Online, particularly A/R, A/P, and bankfeeds
-Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
-Proficiency in online banking software – NNDDC currently uses BMO Online for Business
Ability to manage large amount of financial and bookkeeping transactions daily
Strong time management and ability to meet NNDDC internal deadlines
Strong ability to prioritize workloads to meet shifting tight timelines
Understanding of and respect for financial controls and procedures mandated by NNDDC
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
