Senior Accountant Full-time, Term (April 1, 2024 - March 31, 2025) Hybrid

$70,000 - $90,000 annually Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer

Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing and reviewing NNDDC and its subsidiaries’ financial data, overseeing the accounts payable and receivable processes, and assisting the CFO. The Senior Accountant will work closely with the Controller and Finance Assistant.

Na-Cho Nyäk Dun Development Corporation is the active business arm of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun. Through strategic investments and business practices, NNDDC generates wealth for the First Nation and actively fosters the wellbeing of our land, waters, and people.

Na-Cho Nyäk Dun Development Corporation’s sole shareholder is the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun’s business trust. NNDDC is governed by and reports to  an independent board of directors. NND Citizens currently sit on both the Board of Directors and the Business Trust.


Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Periodic review of the general ledger and accounting data.

  • Periodic review and preparation of financial account and amortization reconciliations.

  • Recording or delegating the recording of financial transactions as needed.

  • Review of the work of the Financial Assistant in relation to transactions recorded in the general ledger.

  • Review of the work of the Financial Assistant in relation to A/P, including up to the point of payment.

  • Selection of NNDDC and subsidiary invoices for periodic payment.

  • Periodic communications with various customers and external parties

  • Review of the work of the Financial Assistant in relation to A/R, including up to the point of receiving payment.

  • Periodic A/R follow-ups for receivables for NNDDC and its subsidiaries.

  • Preparation of invoices as needed

  • Assist in planning, directing, and coordinating all day-to-day and month-end accounting functions.

  • Assist of quarterly and year-end financial statements, financial reports, and working papers.

  • Perform bookkeeping duties as needed.

  • Calculate, prepare, and review quarterly and annual GST returns.

  • Other responsibilities assigned by the CFO.


Conditions of Employment Qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree in accounting, finance or business administration or equivalent. Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is an asset

  • Minimum of Two (2) years’ related experience 

  • Proficiency with Quickbooks Online and Microsoft Excel


Skills and Experience

  • Able to work independently and take initiative with a strong attention to detail

  • Analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

  • Strong ability to prioritize workloads to meet shifting tight timelines

  • Understanding of and respect for financial controls and procedures mandated by NNDDC

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality


Location

This is a hybrid role, with some time expected in office at Waterfront Station, 2237 2nd Ave, Whitehorse, working alongside the finance team, and some time working remotely. Full-time remote work for the right candidate will be considered.
