Sunrise Absorb Community Showcase Event

The entire Sunrise Absorb team invites all Mayo community members to attend our showcase event. Here, you will be able to meet the youth artists, see their incredible hand-made skateboards, and even purchase a board to take home for yourself! Also at the event will be Yaami Candles, also made by JV Clark students. Snacks and light refreshments will be served.

Join us February 29, 2024 from 4-6pm at Ihdzí’ in Mayo.

This past fall, Sunrise Absorb launched to the immediate success and enthusiasm of Mayo youth. This skateboard making program was developed in partnership between JV Clark School, Na-Cho Nyäk Dun Development Corporation, Carleton University and the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun, with the intention of providing a space for skill development, an outlet for cultural creativity, and entrepreneurial experiences. Most importantly Sunrise Absorb is a program designed and developed for youth, by youth!

Proceeds from Sunrise Absorb skateboard sales will be pooled, and will be spent as determined by the program’s youth collectively. In addition to the participants being able to enojy the fruits of their labour, we’ve also designed the program this way to encourage thinking about entrepreneurship in a community-minded way. Our future is strong, resilient, and community minded.

Sunrise Absorb is made possible through the generous support of Yukon Government’s Community Development Fund.
